Department of Physics – Profile
The Department of Physics was established in the year 1980 with the introduction of a B.Sc. un-aided program. Initially, the department offered a combination of Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry (MPC) with an intake of 12 students in each subject.
In 1982,an additional group with Mathematics as the major subject, Physics andstastics are as ancillary subjects was sanctioned, also with a strength of 12 students. During the early years, academic responsibilities were handled by Part-Time Lecturers (PTLs), notably Sri C. Satyanarayana Murthy and Sri Chakrapani Sastry.
A significant milestone was achieved on 1st June 1984, when the un-aided B.Sc. section was granted government aid. Subsequently, Sri C. Satyanarayana Murthy joined as a regular faculty member and assumed charge as the In-Charge of the Department in December 1984. The department was further strengthened with the appointment of Smt. S. Naga Rajeswari in 1985 as the second faculty member. Later, Sri C. Sarath Babu was promoted from the Junior College and joined as the third member of the department.
Over the years, with the expansion of the B.Sc. program, several part-time lecturers continued to contribute to both teaching and laboratory instruction, supporting the academic activities of the department.
The institution underwent a major administrative transition and was merged into theGovernment sector on13th July 2022. At present, the Department of Physics is functioning with two facultymembers, continuing its commitment to quality education.
In line with recent higher education reforms, the Single Major System was introduced from the academic year2023–2024. Accordingly, the department is currently offering a Single Major Program in Physics, designed to provide focused and in-depth knowledge in the subject.
The department remains dedicated to fostering scientific temper, analytical thinking, and academic excellence among students through effective teaching and practical exposure.
